fractured teeth

Clínica dental Madrid Dr. Estévez, dentista en Madrid, Diente roto

Thedental fracturesIt can be caused by trauma or overexertion, despite the fact that the dental structure is very strong. Tooth decay can also weaken the tooth, causing it to break. Sometimes a broken tooth can cause pain if the dental nerve is exposed to air, hot and cold food.

If possible, put the piece of broken tooth in a saline solution or milk and go to the dentist.

CLASSIFICATION:

  1. Coronary fractures. - Enamel. - Enamel and dentin. - With pulp exposure - Without pulp exposure.

  2. Crown-root fractures. - With thumb exposure. - No thumb exposure.

  3. root fractures. • From a clinical point of view, irreversible pulp injury must be ruled out.

TREATMENT:

  1. Restoration with composite resins. It is the material of choice in coronary fractures in the anterior sector and in enamel fractures in the posterior sector. When there is pulp exposure, the corresponding pulp protection will be previously carried out and this tooth will be kept under clinical-radiological surveillance for at least one year.

  2. Restorations with fixed prostheses. It will be performed in crown-root fractures without pulp exposure.

  3. Root canal treatment, post and metal porcelain crown. In all those crown-root fractures with pulp exposure or with symptoms of irreversible pulp injury.

  4. Treatment of root fractures. If it is possible to preserve the tooth, it will be necessary to perform a pulpectomy and, depending on the height of the fracture and the mobility of the apical fragment, it may be possible to perform:

  • Extraction of the coronal fragment and if the apical fragment is large and is 2 or 3 mm from the gingival margin it will be restored with a post and a crown.

  • Extraction of the coronal fragment and if the apical fragment is deeper, slow traction can be performed until it reaches the gingival surface, in order to restore the tooth with a pin and crown.

  • Splinting of the tooth as a preventive measure, if the crown must also be restored; this splinting can be done using a fixed prosthesis.

  • Extraction. In all those cases in which root canal treatment is not possible, there are untreatable infections, or dental restoration is not possible, we will proceed to the extraction.

  • placement of adental implantis the most recommended.
