Teeth whitening can be a very effective way to lighten the natural color of your teeth without removing anything from the tooth surface.

Before performing a dental whitening treatment it is essential that a dentist perform a prior clinical examination. Exploration that must be carried out in a dental office where possible adverse effects can be identified. Rule out the existence of a previous pathology, such as caries and periodontal diseases. Those patients with a certain history or with a previous lesion in the gingival tissue should not be treated with these products.

The dentist will be able to tell you if they are suitable for treatment, and will establish the protocol to follow in the treatment. Every person is different, and just as hair and skin color vary, so do teeth. Very few people have  white teeth and  teeth can also become more yellow as we age.

Teeth can also be stained by  food and drinks such as: tea, coffee, red wine and blackcurrant, etc. Smoking can also stain teeth. Tartar can also affect the color of your teeth. Some people may have staining, which can be caused by certain antibiotics or tiny cracks in the teeth where the stains occupy.

There are several ways to carry out these treatments, one that is carried out in the dental office, activating the product through heat and the other, at home, with a splint. Twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a week, depending on the degree of staining and the desired level of whitening.

It is normal to experience dental sensitivity during the time you are using the teeth whitening, it will gradually decrease after stopping the treatment.

The ingredients in teeth whitening are usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient breaks down, oxygen enters the tooth enamel and the color of the tooth becomes whiter.

The effects ofteeth whiteningIt can last up to three years. However, this can vary from person to person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, eat, or drink products that can stain your teeth. Ask your dentist for his opinion before starting treatment.
